Update 2/2/2022
Mom is coming home today. She has been at Tour Rehab in New Orleans for about 2 months now. They removed her trach and she started eating and drinking very soon after that, last week they removed her feeding tube as well. She is able to sit up on her own for about 30 minutes. She can tolerate standing for a short period of time with assistance. She cannot use her right side at all, so she uses her left side for eating and writing to communicate. She still cannot speak, and she may never be able to. We hope in time she is able to communicate more through her writing. She will be able to come home which is a blessing, but she will need 24 hour care for the foreseeable future. Which of course insurance doesn’t cover so that will all be out of pocket. Please continue to pray for her and our family. Especially my step dad. He will be her primary care taker and this is going to be a very hard on him. It would be hard on anyone. Thank you for all of your prayers, messages and following her on this journey. It means more than you know.
Update 11/3
Mom is at rehab now. We are still waiting on the swelling to go down to see how much functionality she has. She had an infection that set her back. We are praying no more setbacks and moving forward just recovery! Thank you for your continued prayers!
Update 10/26/2021
Mom had another stroke/ brain bleed and had to have another surgery on 10/23. She is still in ICU with swelling of the brain a minimal response. Praying nothing is else was damaged and that we can get her back to where she was on her recovery last Friday. It is so terrible watching her suffer. Please keep praying for a miracle.
On October 10th 2021, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was a healthy 57-year-old mother and grandmother. She was home alone at the time and we have no idea what time the stroke started. She was air lifted to LSUS Hospital where they performed a thrombectomy to remove the blood clot and then eventually a craniotomy to relieve the pressure from the swelling in her brain. After 9 days of waiting and praying, she finally opened her eyes, but at this point can only communicate by squeezing her left hand and blinking. We are still unsure what she truly understands. We hope that each day the swelling in her brain goes down and she regains more cognitive ability. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, calls, etc. We need the prayers to continue, because this is going to be a long road for her. I had no idea how awful something like this could be. Our grandfather had a stroke in his 50s, but we were young and I barely remember what happened. I just remembered visiting him in the hospital and him being in a wheelchair. However, he learned how to walk, talk, sing, write and do all of the things. God’s power is amazing and we are praying every day that he will give my mother the strength to heal and recover from this tragedy.
We adored Pigeon Forge and Dollywood! The mountains were beautiful, we enjoyed the Laurel Falls hike and waterfall! Dollywood was decked out with pumpkins and mums as far as you could see. The boys want to ho back so they can ride more roller coasters since we had to leave early. Everyone was so friendly and it was such a happy place to visit! A definite must do!

Labor Day has come and gone. Summer is basically over. Although the heat will linger a little longer down here in the south. It was or unofficial last pool day and now the rest of our weekends will consist of sports for the kiddos. We enjoyed our last weekend with fun in the sun. I got to wear this cute little mesh one-piece from Amazon that I love! I ordered a size up (medium). Linked below!

May is mental health awareness month and I think it is so important to talk about these issues. There has always been a stigma around mental health issues. I think seeing a therapist is a healthy choice for anyone who needs help for whatever reason. No matter how much or how little you struggle, it is always nice to have an outside perspective and someone to talk to about anything without being judged. Therapy isn’t for everyone, but it can be for anyone. I always try to not judge others. Everyone thinks differently, or handles things differently and has different problems and issues. Some people are better equipped to deal with problems or unprecedented changes in their life. Others might need someone to lean on, talk to or just someone to hear them out.
Also, some people have a huge support system and others do not. We have a very small family and I have lost most of my immediate family. I was lucky to find an amazing therapist (Sandy.) She listens, she gives me suggestions and she doesn’t sugarcoat things for me. She has helped me understand, I do not have to validate my feelings to others even though not all people will care about your them, the people close to you should and they should respect your feelings. Everyone deserves a “Sandy”….. if they need one. If you are struggling and need some help, reach out, either to someone you are close with and trust or maybe go see a therapist. You might not connect with the first one you see, but when you do find the “one”…. it can be life changing. Don’t worry about people judging you. Your life is more important that someone’s opinion of you. Take care of yourself, physically and mentally!
